일민미술관(관장 김태령)은 오는 4월 11일부터 새로운 시각과 실험적 형식으로 무장한 다큐멘터리 영화 감독과 동시대 미술가 9팀 13명이 참여하는 일민미술관 다큐멘터리 프로젝트 ‹토탈 리콜›을 개최한다. ‹토탈 리콜›은 일민미술관, 문지문화원 사이(대표 김태환), 한국영상자료원(원장 이병훈)이 공동 기획, 진행하는 프로젝트로, 전시와 상영회, 퍼블릭 프로그램을 통해 김소영, 김경만, PARKing CHANce(박찬욱+박찬경), 배윤호, 안건형, 옥인콜렉티브, 이행준+홍철기, 정윤석, 차재민의 작업을 선보인다.
일민미술관 전시는 기억과 기록을 열쇠말로 하여 영화감독들에게는 전시 공간에서 선보일 작업을 제작을 의뢰하고, 동시대 미술가들의 경우는 영상 작업을 선정해 새로운 맥락에서 선보이고자 한다(총 전시 작품 8점). 한편, 전시와 함께 진행하는 한국영상자료원 상영회에서는 미술 공간을 위해 제작된 영상 작업들을 극장의 환경과 맥락에서 소개한다(총 상영작 13편). 두 기관을 아울러 진행할 퍼블릭 프로그램은 영화와 미술을 바탕으로 활동하는 작가, 감독과 비평가들의 만남과 대화, 토론에 초점을 맞춘다.
일민미술관은 2002년 다큐멘터리 아카이브를 개관하였고, 2005년부터 매년 다큐멘터리 정기상영회를 개최했다. ‹토탈 리콜›은 미술관 공간을 활용한 상영회의 틀을 확장하고자 하며, 이를 위해 미술가들의 작업을 극장에서 보이는 상영회, 그리고 영화와 미술의 만남을 이끄는 퍼블릭 프로그램을 진행한다. 본 프로젝트를 기점으로, 일민미술관은 더 폭넓은 차원에서 영화와 미술, 다큐멘터리의 관계를 탐구하며 시사성, 동시대성, 예술성을 갖춘 대화와 교류의 장을 마련할 것이다. 또한, ‹토탈 리콜›에서 이루어진 문지문화원 사이, 한국영상자료원과의 협력과 같이 타 장르와 기관과 폭넓은 교류를 이어나갈 계획이다. 이와 함께, 개관 12년을 맞이하는 다큐멘터리 아카이브를 전면적으로 정비하여 프로젝트 진행 기간 중(4.21) 다시 문을 열게 된다. 쉽게 구할 수 없는 영상자료를 만나볼 수 있는 기관 아카이브로 개관한 일민미술관 다큐멘터리 아카이브는 2014 일민 다큐멘터리 프로젝트를 계기로 더 새로운 자료와 뚜렷한 방향성을 가진 아카이브로 거듭날 예정이다.

From April 11 Ilmin Museum of Art will present a documentary project, Total Recall, in which 13 film directors and contemporary artists with new perspective and experimental format participate. Ilmin Museum of Art, Moonji Cultural Institute Saii, and Korean Film Archive will collaborate to plan and host the project. The works of Chan-Kyong Park, Hangjun Lee+Chulki Hong, Jaemin Cha, Kearn-Hyung Ahn, Kyungman Kim, Okin Collective, PARKing CHANce, Soyoung Kim (A.K.A Jeong Kim), Yoonho Bae, Yoonsuk Jung will be shown to the public through movie screenings and public programs.
Working with memory and record as keywords, the exhibition will present new work by film directors and show selected films of contemporary artists in a new context. Meanwhile,at the Korean Film Archive screening will present films in the context and environment of the theatre. The public programs will focus on meetings and conversations among currently active artists, directors, and critics.
Ilmin Museum of Art opened Documentary Archives in 2002 and held annual documentary sessions since 2005. To expand the screening convention by utilizing museum space, Total Recall will have screenings of artists’ work in theaters and public programs that connect film and art. Beginning with this project, Ilmin Museum will explore the relationship of film, art, and documentaries and provide a space that creates a dialogue and interaction of current, contemporary, and artistic issues with the public.
