‘본능’을 개인의 내면적 특성으로 정의하는 작가는 본능을 찾으면 자신의 내면과 딱 맞는 모습으로 거듭날 수 있다고 말한다. <본능미용실>의 디자이너들은 홍학순 작가의 독특한 상담 방식인 뇌스캔(손바닥 맞대기)으로 본능을 디자인한다. 은유와 풍자를 담은 유쾌한 대화를 통해 상담자의 내면세계가 스며든 고유의 이야기가 만들어진다. 상담을 마치면 데이터를 분석한 결과로 디자인된 본능 캐릭터와 본능 등록증을 받는다. 우주의 본능을 신비한 토끼 언어로 담은 ‘토끼 책’과 관련 드로잉을 본능 테이블에서 열람할 수 있다. 본능디자이너 김태희 ,박우수리, 서현지, 송강효진, 이수안, 이승현, 김웃, 린지, 슈뚜, 아니와노노, 윤예선, 이다솔, 성수, 장동은, 장동인, 양지원, 요요진, 유재윤, 김연제, 이도연, 신그리다, 현지너리, 김지안, 정하람, 이서진, 이지원, 이우주가 참여한다.

홍학순은 영상, 회화, 설치, 문학 등 다양한 장르로 활동하며 우주적 존재로서 원초적 에너지를 발견하고자 ‘잃어버린 본능 찾기’를 꾸준히 진행하고 있다. 1999년 동그라미를 그리다 발전한 토끼 언어로 드로잉, 애니메이션, 영화 등을 발표했다. 어린아이 그림 같은 아기자기한 드로잉은 유희와 상상력으로 시선을 끌며 관객을 본능의 세계로 초대한다.

The artist defines “instinct” as personal characteristics of the inner-self and believes one can transform into a unique shape of inner-self once the “true instinct” is found. Designers of the <Instinct Beauty Shop> design the instincts using “BrainScan(Putting Hands Together),” the special counseling method of the artist. The designers also use other conventional counseling techniques, such as the four pillars of destiny, tarot cartomancy, and astrology. Individual stories are formed, infused with the counselor’s inner world through rich metaphors and allegories regulated in a cheerful conversation. After the counseling, the viewers would receive an “Instinct Avatar” and an “Instinct Certificate” as a result of the analyzed data. The drawings related to the “Tokki Book,” a book containing the instinct of the whole universe spoken through the “Mysterious Tokki Language,” can be viewed at the “Instinct Table.” Participating Instinct Desingers are Taehee Kim, Suri Park-Woo, Hyunji Seo, Hyojin Songkang, Su an Lee, Seunghyun Lee, KimOk, sttu, ahniwanono, Yeseon Yoon, Da Sol Lee, sungsu, Jang dong eun, Dongin Jang, Greemgreego, Yoyojin, Yoo jaeyoon, yeon je kim, lee do, Shin Dessiner, HYUNJINERY, ZIAN, RYUN, Lee Sope, Jiwon Lee and Lee Woojoo.
