낡은 장롱과 박스, 비닐봉지, 포도 줄기 등 주워 온 재료로 암실을 조성한 <산장>에는 한 사람만이 입장할 수 있다. 암실이 카메라 옵스큐라로 기능하면서 별이 가득한 밤하늘 아래 자리한 겨울 산의 환영을 만든다. 관람객은 마치 산장에서 홀로 밤을 보내는 것 같은 경험을 하게 된다. <산장> 외부에 고스란히 드러난 주워 온 사물이 만들어 내는 뜻밖의 환영 효과는 사실적 재현이 아니어도 기억과 감정을 얻을 수 있음에 초점을 두고 있다. <모닥불>은 스탠드 조명, 턴테이블 사운드와 가습 효과를 이용한 불의 환영으로 전시실에 온기를 더한다. 모닥불 주변에 둘둘 말려진 장판은 통나무가 놓인 산장 앞 풍경을 연상시키며 무념무상의 휴식을 취할 수 있는 장소로 자리한다.

강호연은 일상 사물과 간단한 과학 원리를 이용하여 관람객이 직접 체험 가능한 공감각적 입체, 설치 및 사진 작업을 진행해 왔다. 다양한 매체를 이용하여 간접적 시각이미지로 자연을 경험하게 하는 작가는 최근 중장기 전시 계획인 ‘백과사전 프로젝트(Project Encyclopedia)’를 통해 작업 스펙트럼을 확장하고 있다.

Only one person at a time can enter <A Cabin>. It is a darkroom built with found materials such as an old wardrobe, boxes, a desk, plastic bags, and stalks of grapevine. As the eyes adjust to the darkness, the darkroom operates as a Camera Obscura, revealing the vision of a bare winter mountain under the night sky full of stars. Viewers are led to an experience similar to that of a night alone at a cabin. This unexpected effect of the illusion is accentuated by the objects that are placed neatly inside the room. It points out that the feeling and the experience conveyed from observing the landscape can be earned without a realistic representation of the landscape itself. <Campfire> adds the warmth through the illusion of fire using a stand light, turntable sound, and humidification. Dried carpet rolled up and placed around the campfire stages as the timbers stacked in front of a cabin, providing a resting spot that alleviates all thoughts and agonies.
