<행운교환소>는 거래를 통해 행운을 강화하는 일종의 카드 게임이 이루어지는 곳이다. 행운교환소 봉투 속에는 별똥별, 네잎클로버, 무지개 등 행운을 상징하는 카드 7장이 무작위로 들어 있다. 미술관 곳곳에 놓인 행운교환소 부스에서 다른 관람객과의 교환 행위를 통해 부족한 카드를 보완할 수 있다. 7종의 카드를 모두 모은 관람객은 행운을 강화해 줄 기념품 세트를 획득하게 된다. ‘운의 불확실성’과 ‘복을 기원하는 행위’가 엇갈리는 과정을 거치며 카드 조합이 완성되는 것을 경험한다. ‘교환을 통한 기복’이라는 행동 양식은 행운을 찾아 나서는 관람객의 주체성을 확대시키며 타인의 존재를 재인식하고 적극적으로 소통하게 한다.

김정모는 관객의 적극적인 참여를 유도하고 활용하여 미적 체험을 공유하는 기회로 삼는다. 제도권 미술계가 작동하는 방식에 관심을 갖고 제도와 현실의 상호작용과 합의 이면의 가능성을 모색한다. 작가 레지던시를 잠시 거쳐 가는 대피소로 만들거나 관객을 동원해 전시공간을 점유해 확보하는 등 작업의 형식과 내용을 상황에 따라 유연하고 다양하게 설정한다.

<Fortune Exchange> is a place where a game of exchange is encouraged to reinforce luck. Each Fortune Exchange envelope holds seven randomly selected cards with symbols of luck such as a shooting star, a four-leaved clover, and a rainbow. By exchanging the cards with other viewers at the Fortune Exchange booths placed all around the museum, the viewers can supply different sorts of cards for themselves. If the viewers collect all seven kinds of cards, they receive a gift set compiling souvenirs for even more luck. The viewers complete the sets of cards as they go through a process where “the uncertainty of luck” and “the wishing for good luck” miss each other. The mode of an act that “wishes-through-exchanging” empowers the subjectivity of the viewers. It also activates an engaging communication within each other in recognition of the others.
